Bio: Tara C. Smith has a BS degree from Yale in Biology, a PHD in Microbiology from the University of Toledo, and a Postdoc in infection disease epidemiology from the University of Michican. She has been an assistance professor at the University of Iowa since 2005. She also contributes to the Science Blogs with her own blog called “Aetiology” which covers “causes, origins, evolution, and implications of disease and other phenomena.” She has written a blog post called “Obstetric fistula as a neglected tropical disease.” She talks about someone going to the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital. She tells a story of a girl with fistula that she obtained from Nicholas Kristof’s book and NY Times article.
